How to install a custom ISO on your cloud server

If you want to install a specific operating system that we don’t officially provide, you can install a custom ISO. With a custom ISO you will also be in complete control over the installation process, allowing you to configure the level of encryption as well as the network.

How to access your server settings

In order to install a custom ISO, you will need to first access your server. To do this, sign into your VPSBG account and navigate to the client area. Next, go to the ‘Services’ tab and click on the ‘Details’ button for the server that you wish to install a custom ISO on.

From here, select ‘Control Panel’. This will open up the server’s settings:

IMPORTANT: If you have enabled 2FA, you will be required to enter your one-time password!

Download the ISO file

Firstly, you will need to click on the ‘ISO’ button in your control panel. This will take you to the ISO management page, which is the place from which you can manage all ISOs that you upload. All you need to do here is to click on the ‘Add ISO’ tab:

Next, copy and paste a direct URL from where your desired ISO can be downloaded from. For example, if you want to install AlmaLinux 9, paste in an AlmaLinux ISO mirror.

The next field will be automatically completed after you paste in the URL for the ISO file. You can rename it if you want, the name does not play an important role - it is only there for your convenience.

Once you have pasted in the URL and chosen a name for your ISO, click on the ‘Add ISO’ button. The system will then begin downloading the ISO file:

How to set a custom ISO for your cloud server

Once your ISO file has been successfully downloaded, you will need to assign it to the cloud server, on which you wish to install it. In order to do this, navigate to the ‘List VPS’ tab from the menu on the left. From there, select the server that you wish to set the ISO for and click on the ‘Manage’ button (it will be indicated by an arrow icon on the right-hand side of the screen).

After you open the management page, navigate to ‘Settings’ and select ‘VPS Configuration’:

Next, select your ISO:

Afterwards, you will need to adjust the boot order in order to put “CDROM1” (your ISO) at the top:

Once you are finished, click on the ‘Submit’ button. You will then receive a message, which will notify you about the ISO status. All you need to do is to simply reboot your server and connect to it via VNC. Once you initiate the restart, your cloud server will be automatically booted from the ISO that you have just installed!

How to connect to your server via VNC

To connect via VNC, you will need to go to your server’s control panel and click on ‘Settings’. Next, select ‘VNC’ and click on the “Launch HTML 5 VNC Client” button:

launch vnc client

The VNC console will then be launched with your custom ISO being used as a boot device:
